does anyone know what will happen if i put a lead fishing Weight into a BB gun?
i was wondering if i made the weight into a ball by cutting off the two end pieces that open the weight and then made it smooth if the gun would shoot the lead ball with out breaking. the reason i am asking is so i can go hunting. also the BB gun can shoot plastic and copper BB's.
The BB gun will shoot it no problem if it's the exact same size. Since lead is heavier than copper, its velocity out of the muzzle will be lower, and since it doesn't travel as fast as a copper BB it will drop faster and it will hit slightly lower at 20 feet out, quite a bit lower at 50 feet out, etc., than a copper BB would. But if you practice and get used to the difference in aiming then the heavier lead would be more likely to down a bird or kill a rat (depending, of course, on where the animal is hit).
You say "without breaking" the gun -- I don't think it will break the gun. But for a gun with a spring-firing mechanism it might put more wear and tear on it, which might make it wear out sooner. This would not be a problem for guns that pump up air pressure -- an air rifle wouldn't be affected.
Hey, you're not a grouchy old man trying to keep kids off your lawn, are you? Be extremely careful with any BB gun: even plastic BBs don't mention copper -- or lead! -- could put somebody's eye out.
